An Aussie Journey – The Dead Heart by Douglas Kennedy

We first meet Nick Hawthorne in a Darwin bar. As a stripper offers contorted perspectives on what Australia has to offer, our hero from Maine meets a fellow countryman from Detroit intent on doing to Asia what America does to most places.

(Personal opinions, eh?) Nick has some of those. He has a personal approach to life, but feels he gets little out of it, despite having achieved the status of being the first person principal character of Douglas Kennedy’s novel The Dead Heart.

Nick is a journalist who has only ever had bit jobs. They interested him bit, earned him a bit, stimulated somewhat less. Then he found a map of Australia and became so obsessed with the continent’s emptiness that he sold up and left the US to discover the unknown, to visit the unvisited. He is less than impressed with Darwin. It’s not a good start. But a VW camper van bought from a Jesus freak promises a great escape along the road to Broome. Not round the corner…

Events happen, like they do… Douglas Kennedy’s The Dead Heart evolves into a kind of fast-moving, page-turning thriller. But there are characters here. Something – not sure what! – seems almost credible. Nick is not the most likeable person, but this rather self-centred, thirty-odd, overweight hedonist does realise that there might be more to life than unlimited sex and beer on tap. He wants both, but clearly somewhere other than Wollanup.

What happens in The Dead Heart is crucial. It’s a plot-led work, but it is also engaging and well written. Its racy style fits the characters´ obvious preoccupations and helps to create a vivid portrait of lives that know only the here and now.

The Dead Heart is a book to be read in a single sitting. The process will leave readers wondering how they might have reacted in such circumstances. And what about Australia as depicted? Is this a stereotype? You bet…

History of Freightliner Trucks

Freightliner Trucks is a well known American truck manufacturer of heavyweight trucks, as well as truck chassis and semi or tractor-trailer trucks and is now a division of Daimler Trucks North America, which is a subsidiary of German Daimler AG.

Freightliner the Early Years

Freightliner Trucks has been known as Freightliner Inc since 1942, but it actually has an earlier history in the 1930s as Consolidated Freightways.
trivago flights
Consolidated Freightways began to develop its own line of trucks by reconstructing Fageols in an attempt to improve the abilities of heavy duty trucks to be able to climb the steep grades of the mountainous regions of the western part of the United States.

These trucks were called “Freightliners,” thus the beginning of the future of the Freightliner Trucks Company.

The first trucks were made in Consolidated Freightways factory in Salt Lake City in 1942, the same year the company became Freightliner.

World War II stopped truck production temporarily at Freightliner, but by 1949 it was back in the truck making business in Portland, Ore. That first truck sold was purchased by a fork life maker called Hyster and that vehicle now has a place of honor in the Smithsonian in Washington D.C.

The company paired up with the White Motor company in 1951 in Cleveland, Ohio to help it sell trucks because to Freightliner lacked a way to distribute its vehicles.

The partnership lasted for about 25 years and the trucks from that relationship were known as “White Freightliner” trucks.

Freightliner in the Hippie Years 1960s and 1970s

In the early 60s, Freightliner was looking for ways to reduce costs such as the importing duty penalty on the trucks made in Burnaby, B.C.. In order to do this, they opened assembly plants in Indianapolis, Indiana. and in Chino, California.

By 1974 Freightliner ended it’s relationship with the White Motor Company because of that company’s financial issues.

Freightliner became a freestanding truck manufacturer and distributer. Around that time Freightliner came out with it’s very first traditional model of truck, which was an adaptation of what was a high cab-over engine model. At the time, these trucks made up 50 percent of the market due to length regulations that put limitations on the bumper to taillight measurements on tractor-trailer trucks.

The company continued to thrive and opened new manufacturing plants in Mount Holly, North Carolina and Gastonia, North Carolina in 1979.

That year marked another milestone for the trucking industry when President Carter signed new laws that deregulated transport rules for both ground and air transportation. This deregulation changed how the economy of the trucking industry operated and got rid of the industry’s protection from competition, which let the Teamsters Union develop a stronghold position due to a Master Agreement made with every one of the nation’s important freight transport businesses.

Freightliner in the Preppie 1980s

The 1980s brought the Surface Transportation Assistance Act of 1982 which made more changes for the trucking industry by relaxing the weight and length rules and putting into place a brand new excises tax on heavyweight trucks and truck tires.

It made it so that the overall length of tractor-trailers was no longer restricted, however, the trailer itself was now restricted and couldn’t be more than 53 feet long.

Freightliner had done well during the years when the transportation industry was de-regulated, but by 1981 it was having problems so the company was sold to Daimler-Benz. It also had to close plants in Chino, California. and Indianapolis, Indiana. However, by 1989, Freightliner was able to buy a plant that already existed in Cleveland, North Carolina that had previously made transit buses.

More Changes for Freightliner in the Booming 1990s

By1991, Freightliner was doing better and was able to bring out a new series of medium weight trucks it called “Business Class.” This was the first truck of the medium weight market in more than 10 years and it was extremely successful.

Freightliners also started making trucks in Santiago Tianguistenco, Mexico near Mexico City in a Daimler-Benz owned plant.

The 1990s ended up being a good era for the truck industry and Freightliner flourished as well. At this time, Frieghtliner was under the leadership of James L. Hebe, who had come to the company in 1989.

Several notable products produced in the 1990s included what became the Freightliner Custom Chassis, which was produced for vans used in businesses such as UPS and Cintas, as well as school buses, diesel recreational vehicles, and shuttle buses in 1995, and in 1997 a heavyweight truck called the “AeroMax” was acquired from the Ford Motor Company and Freightliner renamed the truck series “Sterling.”

Freightliner The Modern Era

In 2000 Freightliner acquired what used to be the Detroit Diesel Corp., which has been a subsidiary of General Motors. Daimler later integrated Detroit Diesel into Freightliner, thus making the company even bigger.

Unfortunately, it may have taken on more than it could handle at this time and by the following year, it had many more trucks than there was demand for. The company was having financial problems and so its former CFO Rainer Schmueckle was brought back to help get the company back in shape again.

During the next couple of years several plants were closed or consolidated in the hopes of getting Freightliner back in black again. In 2007 it had other woes when workers at the Cleveland, North Carolina plant called for a strike and as a result, 700 employees were fired. Most were re-hired about a week later. That same year the company had to lay off 800 workers in Portland, Oregon as it moved that plant to Mexico, and on Jan. 7, 2008 the company became known as Daimler Trucks North America.

Freightliner Today

These days, Freightliner Trucks is as active as ever making heavyweight trucks in the class five through eight series in North America, and it leads the diesel Class A recreational vehicle chassis and walk-in van markets.
continental
Freightliner also is responsible for a class 2 van called the Sprinter that is marketed through Freightliner for Mercedes-Benz in Europe.

As of Jan 2012, Freightliner had plans to hire 1,100 more workers for its Cleveland, NC plant to add to the already 1,500 workers there. This is a temporary measure due to increased demand for Cascadia trucks. Freightliner continues to be popular within the industry for making some of the most durable and dependable heavy weight trucks that are on the road today.

Wilt Chamberlain is best known by sports fans as one of the most dominant basketball players of all time. To people less familiar with sports and basketball specifically the name Wilt Chamberlain might have a familiar sound because of his much publicized personal life.

Making Free Travel a Reality

The attributes of a good group leader is someone who is out going and has a true love for travel. The ability to share information, and create a stir about a trip that you are promoting to friends, co-workers, and friends of friends is one of the major keys to becoming a successful group leader.

The Electronic Dance Music Force That is Black Gold

Brooklyn’s Black Gold is made up of multi-instrumentalist Than Luu and vocalist and keyboardist Eric Ronick, a pair of cool cats who have already earned their “quality” credentials by touring with the backing bands of Ambulance Ltd, M.Ward, Panic At The Disco, Rachael Yamagata, The Hold Steady, Polysics, Scissor Sisters, and Jaguar Love. As their own band, the pair known as Black Gold are known for turning out slickly produced, driving electronica-tinged modern dance pop music.

The band has a wide array of musical inspirations from all eras of rock n roll music. “No style or genre is off limits. We get a real kick out of taking from different artists, different periods, and putting our spin on it. Somehow we ended up with something cohesive and that sounds, undeniably, like us,” says Ronick.

“[Black Gold’s sound is] breathlessly experimental…nearly every song is a potential single begging for an extended dance edit,” raves “Spin” magazine.

Black Gold’s debut album is 2009’s Rush. Meanwhile, they’ve already had a big-selling electronic dance single with “Detroit (Shark Attack Remix),” which has also been released on a limited edition 7″ vinyl record (with a B-side of “The Picture Show”). On Rush, you’ll hear cuts that invoke T-Rex, Satie, Chic, Michael Jackson (when he was R&B), David Bowie, the Brothers Gibb, and The Band. As Ronick said, no style or genre is off limits to him and Luu.

“Detroit” in fact kicks off the Rush album. Listeners will find electronica dance beats that flow in the spaces in between some soulful singing and keyboard work. Then comes “Plans & Reveries” which is a showcase of Ronick’s twin talents of singing and keyboard (here, piano) playing. It seems that Ronick is the pop-mind who knows how to write hooks and sing at an emotionally evocative level that’s a cut above the rest of today’s mediocre vocalists, while Luu knows how to give you the beat and highlight the hooks with musical textures that give the music depth and staying power.

Eventually the album gets to “What You Did” and here it kicks into high gear. The beat is fast and the tasty guitars churn along with the David Rosenthal-like keyboards even as some Stevie Wonder funk-era synths swirl like angry ocean waves in the background. This is a song of the bitterness of a man finding his lover in bed with another, and Ronick’s vocals are at their very best telling you like it is. Black Gold’s Rush is so unique in its modern UK pop mixed with super-eclecticism that Ronick is even given a six-and-a-half minute place to shine on the piano instrumental called “Canyon.”

Look for Black Gold to be a force for some time to come.

What About Whole Life Insurance And Bankruptcy?

Your Detroit Bankruptcy Lawyer always gets asked if a whole life insurance policy can be protected in bankruptcy. A whole life insurance policy is a life insurance policy that has a cash value to it. It is usually more expensive than a normal term life insurance policy, but many people use a whole life insurance policy as a retirement tool.

As with any item of personal property and bankruptcy, whether the whole life insurance policy can be protected depends on each individual’s situation and how much personal property you own and their value.

If you file a Chapter 13, more than likely you will be able to protect the full value of the whole life insurance value. This is because in a Chapter 13, you are paying your creditors back so you will be able to keep all your assets, even those that fall above the exemption amount.

However, if you are in a Chapter 7, the question whether you can keep them or not depends on a lot of things. First off, are you using the Federal Exemptions, or the Michigan Exemptions? You must choose one set and cannot mix and match. Also, how much are your assets worth? House, car, bank accounts, stocks, bonds, personal items, etc. all come into play here in deciding which set to use. Make sure you speak with an attorney to find out which set would be beneficial to you before you file. If not, you risk losing your assets.

The federal exemption, under 11 U.S.C 522 (d) (8) (which is adjusted every three years) allows an exemption of $11,525.00 of the cash value. So if your cash value is only $10,000.00, then you can exempt your whole life insurance policy. Then your creditors or the Trustee cannot take them. You can also deduct the amount of the loan you have against the cash value when determining the exemption amount. So if you have a $25,000.00 cash value, but have a loan of $15,000.oo against it, then you need only exempt $10,000.00. You are safe.

The Michigan exemption is much more generous. Under Michigan’s exemptions, you can exempt the entire amount of the cash value. Sounds great? Well, remember that you must choose either the Federal Exemptions or the State Exemptions, you can’t pick and choose. While the Michigan Exemptions has some greater allowances than the Federal, the Federal does have some greater allowances than the State.

It is important to speak with your Detroit bankruptcy Lawyer and discuss all your assets and their values. Only then can I provide an analysis on which set would be beneficial to you and to protect what you own. You do not want to attempt this on your own, because only an experienced bankruptcy attorney can protect what you worked so hard to get.

If you have a whole life insurance policy and need to get out of debt, call us today at (586) 439-4297, Extension 0, and set up your free consultation. We will discuss your situation and decide whether the Federal or State exemptions would be best for you.

The Effects of Text Messaging

According to Nielsen, American teenagers send and receive, on average, 2,272 messages per month. This equates to nearly 80 messages a day. In fact, text messaging is so popular that in North America (as of 2006), 40% of cell phone users actively use SMS. In Europe the average is 85%. Throughout the world, the use of text messaging has developed very rapidly. In 2000, 17 billion text messages were sent. By 2004, that number reached nearly 500 billion, that’s almost 85 text messages per person in the world.

The popularity of text messaging has placed people in positive and negative situations. For example, former Detroit Mayer Kwame Kilpatrick had his whole life turn upside down through a text messaging sex scandal. He went from being the youngest to the only mayor to be charged with a felony in Detroit. On the positive side, text messaging is utilized as a source of information and reminders. Many credit card companies provide SMS reminders on upcoming due dates. With the increased popularity of cell phones with internet capabilities, people would be able to pay their bills upon receiving the alert. In addition, one can send a text message to Google to find out directions, weather, flight status, sports scores, etc. Services like ChaCha allow us to answer any of our questions. All you do is send a question to ChaCha and a live person will send you a message back, within a few minutes, with the answer to your question. However, these convenient services, as well as general text messaging, have its outcomes.

Many experts agree that text messaging has served more bad than good, especially to the teenage population. There are obvious safety concerns, especially with recent proposals to ban text messaging while driving. This obviously creates a distraction to drivers, putting other drivers and pedestrians at risk. Even while walking, people have most of their attention to typing their messages, instead of what’s ahead of them. Especially in busy places, I’ve noticed people still don’t pay attention. The other day I was walking by Times Square and got very annoyed at people who suddenly stop in the middle of the sidewalk to finish a message. That, and a combination of tourists, makes Times Square a trap.

Teenagers are easily distracted at school. Instead of paying attention in classes, students are texting away. I’ve seen this happen a lot in college. Especially in high schools, this leads to falling grades, and poor report cards. Some kids are up late messaging their friends, which experts believe could have a significant impact on sleep. I’ve seen a lot of people struggle in college because they use their phones so much. I think this is because when you send a text message, it is likely that you are in the middle of a thought. Thus, a response means the inclination to respond right away, distracting you from other things (studying). I saw this happen at my school library all the time. Especially during finals, it would take forever to find a table. It’s really frustrating when people take up study space but just sit there typing on their phones. During group projects, there is always one kid who keeps pulling his or her phone out to send a message. This creates a huge distraction from work and has significant impacts. I’ve also read articles that provide cases of students using text messages to cheat. Even though teachers and professors state not to bring phones to exams, they never enforce the rule.

I would think that increased cellular phone use, especially for text messaging, could have negative effects for your hands. The concept of texting is similar to typing, which has proven to cause problems for many. Although text messaging is not as comprehensive as using a computer keyboard, the increased usage may still be enough to cause musculoskeletal disorder. However, data is very limited on this subject.

What about the use of the English language? One would think the use of abbreviations, short messages, and incomplete sentences could lead to sloppy language skills. Although text messages are brief, they are sent so many times that in aggregate, it could have an impact in linguistics. Many experts feel this way; however, others present an interesting counter-argument. Text messaging may not be all that bad. Some experts add that the use of abbreviations is a novel way of communication that demonstrates dexterity and creativity. This method of communication expands our language capabilities and demonstrates ingenuity. There are cases in which people catch themselves using “text message lingo” in academic papers, while causing no harm for others.

I’ve noted a few ways in which text messaging benefits individuals. One other way is that this method of communication connects people. Many people are in constant contact with each other. They develop a strong interest to know what’s going on in people’s lives and share information that they wouldn’t otherwise. Some conversations, or at least topics of discussion, would never arise in direct dialogues. Sometimes it’s because we’re too scared or forget later on. There are other situations where sending a text message may be more appropriate then conversing on the phone (in a quiet public place). Thus, it adds a lot of convenience and doesn’t distract others.

I have mentioned many ways in which text messaging harms human beings. I’m fully aware that these interpretations are only valid with credible data and statistical analysis. However, the rise in text messaging is a recent phenomenon, and not enough data is available to construct definitive conclusions. Many experts have developed a number of hypotheses that they hope to test in the near future. I’ve come across a few studies, but found a lot of flaws that lead to inaccurate justifications. Some studies sample just a few students from one specific high school, which leads to invalid results. I chose not to share this data or conclusions for these reasons. For a future study, it would be interesting to stratify data by type of cell phone (compare regular phone vs smart phone and see if there is a significant difference in effects – whether positive or negative).

4 OHL 50 Goal Scorers From 1989-90

1989-90 was a bit of an offensive lull in the Ontario Hockey League. Keith Primeau of the Niagara Falls Thunder won the Eddie Powers Trophy with 127 points. It was the lowest point total for a leader since Rejean Houle of the Montreal Junior Canadiens led the league with 108 in 1968-69. There would be a leader with a lower point total again until 1995-96 when Aaron Brand of the Sarnia Sting took the Eddie Powers with 119 points.

Consequently, there were just four 50 goal scorers in the league that season. There were six reaching the milestone the previous year and seven the following season. In turn, three of the four went first, third and fourth overall in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft.

Keith Primeau of the Niagara Falls Thunder led the league with 57 goals while playing the full 68 game schedule. 1989-90 was Primeau’s third of three seasons in the OHL and the following season he was a regular with the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings. Keith was selected third overall by the Red Wings in 1990.

Primeau played in the NHL from 1990-91 to 2005-06 with the Red Wings, Hartford Whalers / Carolina Hurricanes and Philadelphia Flyers. In 909 regular season NHL games, Keith scored 266 goals and totalled 619 points. He served as team captain in Philadelphia for his final four seasons.

Paul DiPietro of the Sudbury Wolves came second with 56 goals, playing two less games than Primeau. It was DiPietro’s fourth of four seasons with the Wolves and he also finished second to Primeau in points with 119. Paul was taken in the fifth round by the Montreal Canadiens in 1990.

Paul DiPietro played 192 regular season games in the NHL between 1991-92 and 1996-97 with the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs and Los Angeles Kings. His name is inscribed on the Stanley Cup, winning it with the Habs in 1992-93. Paul left to play pro hockey in Europe for the 1997-98 season and is still active in Switzerland’s elite league.

Mike Ricci of the Peterborough Petes finished third with 52 goals, two less than his total from the previous season. In both years, he accomplished his totals while playing just 60 games in each year. Ricci played three years in the OHL from 1987-88 to 1989-90, all with Peterborough. The Philadelphia Flyers drafted him fourth overall in 1990.

Mike played in the NHL from 1990-91 to 2006-07 with the Flyers, Quebec Nordiques / Colorado Avalanche, San Jose Sharks and Phoenix Coyotes. He moved over to Quebec in 1992-93 as part of the famous trade that sent Eric Lindros to the Flyers. Ricci played 1,099 regular season NHL games, scoring 243 goals and totalling 605 points.

Owen Nolan finished fourth with 51 goals in just 58 games with the Cornwall Royals. It was Nolan’s second of two years in the Ontario Hockey League. Along with his 58 goals and 111 points, Owen also spent a whopping 240 minutes in the penalty box in 1989-90. Nolan was the first overall pick at the 1990 NHL Entry Draft, going to the Quebec Nordiques.

Owen played 1,200 career regular season games in the NHL between 1990-91 and 2009-10 with the Nordiques / Avalanche, San Jose Sharks, Toronto Maple Leafs, Phoenix Coyotes, Calgary Flames and Minnesota Wild. He scored 422 career goals in the NHL and contributed a total of 885 points.

Hard to Find Phone Numbers – Computer and Internet Retailer

This alphabetical list contains a lot of hard to find phone numbers of Computer and Internet Related stuff. This is a basic rough list which I’ll try to update periodically. It’s not perfect as I’m sure I left plenty of companies out and all the phone numbers are US phone numbers with the exception of TuCows, which is a Canadian number and Logitech’s remote control number (They rule!). You may need to put a “1” in front of the Toll Free numbers where applicable. I tried to give customer service contact numbers as much as possible and used the latest phone numbers I could find:

Highest Valued 1968-69 O-Pee-Chee Rookie Hockey Cards

The 1968-69 O-Pee-Chee hockey card set marked the company’s first NHL production since 1940-41. This was the first time the 1967 NHL expansion teams were included in a set. Of course, Bobby Orr of the Boston Bruins leads the way when it comes to value. The top four rookie cards are not far behind and feature some pretty impressive hockey players.

Bernie Parent – Philadelphia Flyers

Number 89 in the 1968-69 O-Pee-Chee set features Hockey Hall of Fame goaltender Bernie Parent of the Philadelphia Flyers. With a book value of $250, this is the highest valued rookie card in the set. Interestingly, Parent played 39 of Boston’s 70 games in his rookie season but Topps did not include him. He played another 18 with the Bruins in 1966-67 and 38 with the Flyers in 1967-68, making him nearly a veteran by the time his rookie card finally came out.

Bernie retired after the 1978-79 National Hockey League season and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1984. Along the way, he played for the Bruins, Flyers and Toronto Maple Leafs. Parent also spent a season in the WHA with the Philadelphia Blazers.

The Flyers perhaps would not have been two time Stanley Cup champions in the 1970’s without Bernie Parent. The team won back to back in 1973-74 and 1974-75. In each of those seasons, Parent was awarded the Vezina Trophy during the regular season and the Conn Smythe Trophy in the playoffs.

Mickey Redmond – Montreal Canadiens

Number 64 in the 1968-69 O-Pee-Chee set is the Mickey Redmond rookie card and has a book value of $70. Redmond played in the NHL from 1967-68 to 1975-76 with the Canadiens and Detroit Red Wings. Mickey won a Stanley Cup championship with the Habs in 1968-69 but became an individual star in the league only after he was traded to the Red Wings. In 1972-73, Redmond scored 52 goals and the following year he scored 51.

Keith McCreary – Pittsburgh Penguins

Number 193 is the Keith McCreary rookie card and has a book value of $40. However, the card is valued so high because of an error. There were some that were produced with the card number absent from the back. These cards are the ones valued so high. If the card actually has the number 193 on the back, it is valued as a simple common card.

Keith’s NHL career began in earnest back in 1961-62 when he played one playoff game for the Montreal Canadiens. He played nine more games with Montreal in 1964-65. However, it wasn’t until the 1967 NHL expansion when McCreary became a regular in the National Hockey League. He played until the end of the 1974-75 season with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Atlanta Flames.

Garry Unger – Detroit Red Wings

Number 142 is the Garry Unger rookie card and has a book value of $30. Unger is the number 2 ironman in NHL history, holding the record for most consecutive games played until Doug Jarvis, the current ironman, broke it a few years later.

Garry played in the NHL from 1967-68 to 1982-83 with the Maple Leafs, Red Wings, St. Louis Blues, Atlanta Flames, Los Angeles Kings and Edmonton Oilers. His first year was split between Toronto and Detroit and Unger is shown as a member of the Red Wings on his 1968-69 hockey card.

Ford’s Story of Success and Pride

The headquarter of Ford is in Dearborn, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. This is the place where the ex-chief engineer of the Edison Illuminating Company, named Henry Ford founded the, “Ford Motor Company”, on June 16, 1903 with a capital amount of $28,000 along with twelve other investors. The famous scientist Thomas Alva Edison was a great friend of Henry Ford and he encouraged him to go ahead with his idea and dream of establishing an automobile company which will manufacture simple and affordable car for the Americans.

At the beginning only two to three workers worked on each car. On July 23, 1903 the company sold its first produced car, Ford Model A and Dr. Ernst Pfennig a dentist from Chicago, became the first owner. Other car manufacturers made cars for wealthy people but Ford developed a design and manufacturing method that reduced the price of the Model T, which made its debut in 1908 at a price of $825. In its first year a record sale of over 10,000 cars was reached. Four years later the price dropped to $575. By 1914 Ford claimed a share of 48% of the automobile market. The car was sold like hot cakes. With the rise in demand, Ford was able to reduce the assembly time of the Model T from 12.5 hours to less than 6 hours. Ford created history and became the change maker of the automobile market.

World War 1 came to be a turning point as it changed the course of automotive history. Henry Ford was able to draw a large profit at that time. Ford Model T cars were used by the several armies for war purpose. It not only served as ambulances but also as delivery trucks, staff cars and artillery movers. As soon as America joined the war, Ford started producing ambulances, trucks, vans, tanks and submarine chasers. Ford’s Trafford Park factory in Manchester supplied the British army with 30,000 Model Ts as ambulances and transporters of troops, water and munitions carriers.

When World War II started there was a boost in Ford’s economy as they were serving both the sides. They produced roughly around 2,82,352 war Jeeps in the years 1941-1945. Ford’s bomber plant at Willow Run, located in the Detroit suburbs manufactured automobiles for war and not for public transportation. Ford V3000 ambulances were used in World War II by the Germans. Ford of Germany built a total of 80,000 trucks for the German army during the war.

Ford did not limit itself in manufacturing only cars. They also manufactured trucks, vans and tractors. In 1925 they also manufactured airplanes. They also produced some important cars in the history of automobiles apart from the Ford Model T. Ford 150 Pickup remained a best seller for almost six decades. Ford Mustang is the first American “muscle car”. Ford F-150 SVT Raptor, Lincoln Continental, Ford Thunderbird, Ford Transit, Ford Capri, Ford Escort is some of the most popular Ford cars.

Engines play a vital role in car’s success. Ford produced 3, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 cylinder engines till date. Some of the important engines manufactured by Ford, are Ford Model T engine, Flathead V-8 engine, Cobra Jet engine, Boss engine, Ecoboost engine, etc. The 1.0 Ecoboost is a UK-designed 3-cylinder engine which has won awards from industry judges and experts. The Ecoboost engine is developed to be more fuel saving, more Eco friendly and less costly. Ford is not only famous for producing beautiful cars, but also for producing one of the best engines and creating history in the competitive automobile market.

The Ford family is a proud owner of the company for more that 100 years. It is one of the few notable brands in the world whose ownership stayed in the family of the founder for more than a century. They take pride in producing the first ever car for the common man by breaking the idea that a car is a rich man’s property. Ford always created examples in the automobile industry. “$5 day”, is an important day in the history of mankind because around 10,000 people gave line with a desire to get employed at Ford when there was a salary hike of $5 per day. It created an impact within the society as well as in the automobile industry as the production rate and quality of Ford cars got raised after the hike.

Today Ford factories are located in the USA, Britain, Germany, India, Brazil, Portugal, Argentina, Russia, Spain and many more. Henry Ford is considered to not only be a car manufacturer, but a change maker who changed the fate of the automobile industry.

Baseball Fans In Toronto Have Had Little To Celebrate On Canada Day Games

It should have come as no surprise that Toronto lost yesterday, in spite of the many things working in its favor. After all, the Blue Jays had won eleven of their last thirteen at home, there was a sell out crowd at the Rodgers Centre, and they were playing a Detroit Tigers club that had just suffered a thirteen game losing streak.

Unfortunately, the game happened to be on Canada Day, a National holiday for the Northern neighbors of the Untied States. It also happens to be, based on history, an unlucky day for Canada’s baseball team.

The Blue Jays have played thirty games on Canada Day in their home park over the course of their forty year history, and all thirty have been celebrations of the National holiday. Overall, though, the baseball team has had little to celebrate on the field.

In those score and a half of contests since 1977, Toronto has won just nine while losing twenty one. There have been eleven occasions on which the Blue Jays played on the road on Canada Day, and they probably wish for an away game much more often than that after the calendar turns from June to July.

As one would have expected from looking back at past occasions, the Blue Jays appeared to be doomed to lose on Canada Day again in 2018. They trailed the Tigers heading into their last at bat, and they in fact were one strike away from another holiday loss.

At that point pinch hitter Justin Smoak drew a walk with the bases loaded, allowing Toronto to tie the score and send the game into extra innings. That free pass incited the crowd at the Rodgers Centre, who felt for sure that this Canada Day would break with history and see their team succeed.

That hope proved short-lived, as the Tigers struck back in their next at bat. Shortstop Joe Iglesias hit a sacrifice fly that gave Detroit a 3-2, which ended up being the final score.

Fans around Ontario can take some comfort in the thought that the one run loss was not nearly as bad as the one back in 2001, when the division rival Boston Red Sox drubbed the home team by a score of sixteen to four. A decade and a half before the Blue Jays suffered a Canada Day loss almost as bad, the Seattle Mariners laying an eleven to two loss on Toronto.

In spite of the poor record on Canada Day in the club’s history, there is still reason to be happy when the Blue Jays play at home when July opens. Toronto’s two World Series Championships came in 1992 and 1993, both seasons in which the Blue Jays happened to win on Canada Day.

Michigan is one of the States in the US that experiences a humid climate during the summer season. Summer season means a hot climate in the entire region of Michigan despite being bi-peninsular in nature. Bradshaw/Montana No Show

Ok, so usually something like this wouldn’t bother me – but the more I got thinking

about it, the more steamed I became. All but three living Super Bowl MVP’s were

present for the Pre-Game Ceremony. Those players were Terry Bradshaw, Joe

Montana, and Jake Scott. Oh, Jake Scott was traveling in Australia and could not

make it you say? Well were Bradshaw and Montana with him? No, they weren’t! Wait,

did you say they were both in Detroit at some point last week. What could have

happened that would have kept them from attending a Ceremony honoring a game

that has been both good and lucrative to them – let’s see:

1.) Death in the Family – Nope not that, I called and spoke with every immediate

member of the Bradshaw and Montana family and all alive THANK GOD!

2.) Sickness – Nope, not that either. These were two of the toughest players ever

to suit so there was no way a cold would have kept them from that

So then what is left? I’ll tell you – MONEY! Bradshaw and Montana declined coming

to the Super Bowl because it did not pay enough. Who do they think they are, Ted

DiBiase? Not even close – They are two guys who owe at least showing up to a sport

that has made them, if nothing else……FREAKIN LOADED.

Joe Montana reportedly was asking for $100,000 dollars as an appearance fee. That

is $99,000 more than Steve Young received for showing up and although I believe

Montana was a better QB, he wasn’t 100X better!

Terry Bradshaw – 4 time SB Champion – 2 Time SB MVP….NO Show! Although he

didn’t come out and say it’s about money….it’s about money. Bradshaw is one of

the highest paid Motivational Speakers in the country so he is paid big time to show

up at events. Here is the kicker – He was in Detroit appearing that week to talk to

some group. Oh, another thing I just remembered, The Steelers were in the Super

Bowl! Nice Terry, way to support your team….ASS!

People talk about today’s athlete and how it is only about the money and how the

athlete of yester-year did it for “The Love of the Game” Well Jerome Bettis, modern

athlete, showed up to play the game he loved while Bradshaw and Montana, well…

you know.
